I've been fully aware of this. The only risk is if you actually fall for it. Like the 'Metropolitan Police Virus'. It is a ploy to get your money. Of course, as it implies, these are hackers pretending to be police. Most of the time they are designed to be found on porn sites, which is why you may encounter it and be falsely accused of watching illegal pornography (Namely with underage children). Even then, you can't get that screen unless you download the fake virus scanner.
These virus are seemingly designed to steal from people who wouldn't know much about computers. The signals are there.
-On a Mobile Device, being directed to an app to fix your 'virus'. The app is the real monstrosity.
-Desktop links are mispelled slightly or telling you to download a '.zip' file. A type of file that most 'Trojans' are stored in.
Now let's talk worst case scenario. You got tricked, you got the worst type of virus (there are 3 types), The Trojan.
The Trojan is named after the 'Trojan Horse' which stealthy snuck in soldiers to attack. What relevance does this have? Well... Imagine a zip file containing all types of bad things for your computer.
That is why you should be scared when your computer tells you that you have a Trojan.
Standard Virus (Low), Wurm (High), Trojan (Critical).
And Trojans contain Viruses and Wurms!! Never download a zip. They usually have a timer for when they set off. My sister downloaded one and luckily it didn't go off, her laptop would've been wiped clean and rendered useless.
That is why going to 'goggle.com' would kill your computer. (Unsure if it is fixed but don't go there anyway.)
